Today is composer Carl Orff’s (1895-1982) birthday.  He is best remembered, at least to modern listeners, for the “O Fortuna” segment that opens and closes his cantata, Carmina Burana, which is one of my favorite choral pieces.  While “O Fortuna” is an amazing segment, it has become almost trite due to it use in countless TV shows, commercials, and films, not to mention the parodies and imitations (I’m looking at you, Enya).  So today let’s celebrate Orff’s birthday while listening to two other parts of Carmina Burana:  “Circa mea pectora” and “Veni, veni, venias”.
