On December 31, 2011, at 7:15pm Japan Standard Time (December 31, 2:15am Pacific Standard Time/California), NHK will broadcast the 62nd annual Kōhaku Uta Gassen (“Red and White Song Battle”). Some of my favorites will be performing, including Hamasaki Ayumi, Mizumori Kaori, Wada Akiko, Porno Graffiti, and of course, Perfume. The show will run approximately 4.5 hours. Viewers outside of Japan can probably watch it online by downloading KeyHole TV software, though the quality tends to be very poor.  Kōhaku Uta Gassen is Japan’s top-rated musical event, and over the years has featured a few Western performers such as Paul Simon, Cyndi Lauper, and Andy Williams.
